Changes in Social Media

Social media is constantly evolving, and this summer was no exception! Here’s a few changes that occurred in the social media landscape during the last few months:

1. Twitter becomes X

Unless you live under a rock (or outside of San Francisco), Twitter, one of the most popular social media platforms, underwent a major rebranding and changed its name to X in July 2023. This change was part of billionaire Elon Musk’s plan to turn Twitter into a so-called super-app.

2. Instagram introduces Broadcast Channels

Instagram made Broadcast Channels available to ALL creators. This new feature allows creators to share their content with a wider audience and increase their reach on the platform.

3. Instagram allows users to download public Reels

Instagram now lets users in the US download public Reels. This feature makes it easier for users to share Reels with their friends and followers.

4. LinkedIn removes several features

Bad news: LinkedIn removed several features, including native carousels, profile videos, and in-image and in-video links.

Good news: The platform also launched DMs for company pages, allowing businesses to communicate directly with their followers. My inbox is lonely:

5. TikTok introduces interactive add-ons for ads

TikTok introduced interactive add-ons for ads, such as voting and countdown stickers, pop-ups, gestures, and floating icons. These new features are designed to boost engagement and make ads more interactive.

6. TikTok allows users to add sounds to videos via desktop

TikTok now lets users add sounds to their videos when uploading via desktop. This feature makes it easier for creators to add music and other audio elements to their videos.

7. YouTube rolls out A/B testing for video thumbnails

YouTube is rolling out A/B testing for video thumbnails, allowing creators to test different thumbnail images and see which one performs better. They explain their new tool Test & Compare in a video.

8. WhatsApp creates feed-like Channels for creators

WhatsApp created feed-like Channels for creators, brands, and other organizations to share updates. This new feature allows businesses to share news and updates with their followers in a more organized and structured way.
