I’ve been told I’m highly productive and dependable. However, the art of scheduling time for self-care and creativity is something I’m terrible at.
During the day, I work a full time job in a digital marketing role for a non-profit. It keeps me busy to say the least. In my spare time, I like to keep abreast of what current trends are, what’s going on in the world of AI, email, social media, and SEO. I take advantage of my company’s “LinkedIn Learning” courses, as well as some free workshops. I’m always learning, chasing growth. Because let’s face it, staying relevant in this digital jungle is a full-time gig.
I also try (and fail mostly) at maintaining this blog, my relative socials and side quests. I manage my personal social media profiles, my work accounts, my DOG’s, and this blog . Some accounts haven’t seen a meme or post in months. It’s hard to keep up. The relentless march of content demands a scheduler, yet I resist the siren call of paid automation. Why? Because I’m cheap.
I remember kicking this old blog back up from the dust last year with a rebrand and a new name. Did I ever truly define a purpose for this blog beyond its revival and a quest for Google’s recognition? Not really. I was excited for a good few weeks, even months. I blame this on undiagnosed ADHD and the need for exciting new projects…constantly. A new sensation to distract me from the boring work. Something sparkly, something optimized.
I spent time going over old posts, updating links, images, writing new pieces to help find a voice. After so many years of sharing tips, insights, advice, being a pseudo IT person, I figured I may as well put it all in one place: a great digital repository. Here, all of the information floating around my head and the most common questions I get asked can live freely.
My trouble is unfortunately consistency. You need consistency for growth. I don’t like posting for the sake of posting and some sort of “social attendance” irks me. To feel that 2x a week or 2x a day isn’t “enough”… is enough to stress me out! My social media presence is like a hermit crab hiding in its shell, hoping nobody notices its been AWOL. (Also, just posting everyday is NOT a social media strategy.)
Who is my audience? I don’t know that either yet, I’ll be honest. Maybe it’s the person who wants to learn basic digital marketing skills without being intimidated or inundated with information. Maybe people want to know how I travel with my dog or just how to edit a PDF.
And so, dear reader, welcome to my little corner of the internet. We’re diving headfirst into the abyss of digital marketing tips, mental algorithms, day to day life and the occasional introverted GenX rant.
